I cannot get over how nice Moab riding is right after rain!
April 14, 2026 - Quick trip down to do some minor repairs and upgrades to our condo (replace BBQ ignitor and fridge water filter, repair shower door handle). Weather was mildly cold for this time of year, as high temps were only in the high 50's on Tuesday. I rode my mountain bike on a new-to-me loop in Navajo Rocks (my favorite area for MTB-ing). I parked at the main trailhead and rode South on Middle Earth. It had just rained, so the asphalt was still wet. This made the sandy areas nice and rideable, with the sand packed down. The dirt was nice and tacky with no mud, but many puddles in the depressions of the sandstone. At the T-junction I turned right onto Coney Island (a trail that I had never ridden in it's entirety). It's a climb, but a beautiful one, on an exquisite evening which started at 6:15pm from the trailhead. Once I climbed the 600' vertical to the top, I jumped onto Big Lonely, then to Big Mesa - trails I have ridden dozens of times while riding "The Big Big Cheese" route. I finished around 8pm, stopping multiple times to take pictures and video. God bless America!
