Slickrock trail never gets easier.
April 15, 2026 - Met up with my cousin, Troy and his family for a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and strawberry/banana Kodiak pancakes. He and I hit the road from the condo and were at the Slickrock trailhead 15 minutes later. After chatting up a couple of Canadians in the parking lot who were planning to ride the trail on their electric unicycles, we started our ride at 1045am, with the temperature a pleasant 55 degrees. I only ride Slickrock every 2-3 years, but it never gets easier. The climbs are grinds, so steep you are constantly surprised that your rear tire is not spinning out. We did the clockwise lollipop loop. I fell just after the junction on the longest, steepest climb, underneath the zipliners. I was uninjured thanks to my guardian angels, who are consistently working overtime to keep me alive. My Niner landed on the drivetrain side, and afterwards I lost my granny gear and 2nd gear, because they kept skipping out. I rode the remainder of the trail in 3rd - 6th, and my chain stayed on. Troy and I were gassed by the end, but both of us made it up the steep climb out of the lollipop stick. Woo-hoo! Perfect weather for recreating, as the whole area was FULL with mountain bikers, motorcycle riders, side-x-sides, and zipliners.
